by Staff

Yesterday, SeaWorld Orlando's Animal Rescue Team successfully rescued a female endangered manatee from the waters of the National Canaveral Seashore near New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

Prior to the rescue, wildlife officials observed the animal floating near the surface with the inability to submerge. This normally indicates that the sea cow is suffering from probable chest injuries caused by a boat strike.

Upon arrival at the park's Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, veterinarian will examine the animal to determine the extent of its injuries. Animal care specialists will immediately begin supportive care by antibiotics and fluids for nourishment.

SeaWorld is the global leader in the rescue and rehabilitation of manatees. The park's Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation Team is on call 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. The goal with every rescue is to return the animal back to the wild.
