Julie Scardina’s African Journey: Rhinos Under Siege

by Staff

When a wildlife crisis happens unexpectedly, the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund responds with Animal Crisis Grants which provide rapid, much-needed funding to aid wildlife and habitats in peril due to either natural or human-caused events.

Black rhinos living on Ol Pejeta Conservancy’s breeding sanctuary were under siege by poachers who were killing them for their horns. Funds from an Animal Crisis Grant were used to add more security patrols that thwarted the next three poaching attempts. Since then, Ol Pejeta has been able to sustain a successful security program as they continue their work to re-establish rhinos back into the wild.
