Flights Departing Soon

Media day is quickly approaching ... it's this Friday, April 30. Then the official opening for Europe in the Air to the public is May 1. Final preparations are underway for the big opening. I had an opportunity to learn about how the ride was programmed and never would have guessed how it was done.

Busch Gardens has been working with an engineering firm on this project. Fred Hackworth, Controls Engineer, explained to me how they made Europe in the Air work. He and his partner created a 1/8 scale replica of the simulator that they remotely moved while watching the movie, recording the movement along the way. If they realized an area needed some more or less lift, they used formulas to get it to the exact degree.

The tweaking of the movie and movement are nearing completion. The original music score has been added and all that is left is the timing. They need to time the scents, the fans, and the doors opening.
