SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - SeaWorld Orlando’s Animal Rescue Team rescues a young female manatee on Tuesday from a canal near Satellite Beach. This was the park’s 11th cold-stress manatee rescue this year – an unusually high number due to Florida’s unseasonably cold and extended winter.

TAMPA - Busch Gardens has to pull more than 1,000 blue tilapia out of a lake that needs cleaning.

Meanwhile, less than an hour north of the theme park, a nonprofit group dedicated to alleviating world hunger through sustainable fish farming is struggling to replenish about 2,000 blue tilapia killed by winter freezes.

It was with shock and sadness last week that I read the news of the death of Dawn Brancheau, the trainer at Sea World who died during the Shamu show. Suddenly she was gone from all the lives she had left her mark upon, mine being one of them. I had taken my family to Sea World and seen the exact show to which she devoted her life.

Staff members from Busch Gardens and campers from their summer camp program will assist Tampa Bay Watch with the planting of 10,600 plugs of salt marsh at Terra Ceia Ecosystem Restoration Project on the morning of Saturday, March 6th. The Busch Gardens summer campers planted and grew 600 of the salt marsh plugs on Busch Gardens’ property.
