Busch Gardens Celebrates Bert's Birthday July 24

Sesame Street's Bert celebrates his birthday on July 26, so Busch Gardens Tampa is hosting a party for him in the new Sesame Street Safari of Fun on Saturday, July 24. Ernie's straight-laced sidekick will be the guest of honor during a breakfast and a lunch dine. Breakfast is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.; lunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Do You Hear What I Hear?

Did you know Humpback whales produce a series of sounds that are classified as "songs?"

Experts speculate that such vocalizations make it possible for whales to locate each other and assess possible mate status. While scientists don't have clear answers on the exact function of these songs, the songs are indeed sung by the males and only while in breeding grounds.

Rescued Fur Seal Becomes an At-Sea Researcher

A Guadalupe fur seal rescued and rehabilitated by SeaWorld San Diego is helping with important research. The year-old female was found emaciated and comatose on a San Diego-area beach in March, and veterinarians determined she was hyperglycemic and hypothermic. After months of medical treatment by SeaWorld animal care specialists, she made a full recovery.

With such a small population, each individual wolf and each wolf pack is critical to the population's long-term survival. This has been the cause of a good deal of discussion on the Internet because it appeared to mark the return of @Shamu to Twitter, which is something we've been talking about. You could be forgiven if you thought that a tweet from @Shamu concerning an oil spill was, indeed, from @Shamu, given the fact that @Shamu is opposed to oil spills, which are notoriously untidy affairs with very serious consequences
