"This is like nothing I have ever experienced. I've been in the jungles of Africa, to Borneo, Southeast Asia, Australia, and this is simply like another planet."

Julie Scardina, official Animal Ambassador for SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and Discovery Cove zoological parks is taking in Antarctica for the first time, and she is impressed.
"You're not really on land, just miles and miles of ice," she laughed during an interview with AOL News as she trudged across the frozen surface recently. She was visiting the mysterious continent as part of a unique trip offered by Quark Expeditions, a leading polar expedition company. As the celebrity guest on the trip, Scardina delivered several presentations on board the Kapitan Khlebnikov, the historic Russian icebreaker.

And this morning, Scardina talked about this remarkable trip with Matt Lauer -- and later, with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb -- on the "Today" show.

Our interview took place in part on the first and primary stopping point on the journey, Snow Hill Island, which lies off the east coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. Famed for its abundant colonies of Emperor penguins, this was the second to last trip the icebreaker would be making to Snow Hill, which made it extra special for Scardina and the 100 or so passengers aboard.
