SeaWorld Trainers Explain How Killer Whales Play with Gates

A recently posted YouTube video shows Kalia, one of the killer whales at SeaWorld San Diego, playing with a gate. The gates at Shamu Stadium use a small amount of pressure, and open and close slowly. The whales can easily move them when the trainers begin a gate cycle. Gate play is an enjoyable game for the whales. When a whale is playing with a gate, the trainers are always nearby. SeaWorld Rescue Team Passes 1,000-Animal Milestone in 2014,  Highlights “Top 10” Memorable Moments

This month, the SeaWorld and Busch Gardens wildlife rescue teams passed a milestone, which shows why animals need our help now more than ever.

We have now rescued more than 1,000 wild animals this year alone, bringing the total number of animals we’ve helped over the years to 24,000. These are orphaned newborns, entangled whales, and sea lions that were injured.

SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund Finalizes 2014 Grant Recipients

Fifty-seven wildlife conservation projects around the world are receiving much needed funding from the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund this year. Just over $1 million is being distributed among these projects bringing the amount awarded since the Fund was created in 2003, to more than $11 million.
